TIER Expands Global Footprint To Bahrain As Its Third Country In The Middle East To Promote Sustainable Mobility admin September 12, 2021

Europe’s leading micro-mobility provider, TIER, has touched ground in the city of Manama with the deployment of its industry-leading e-scooter fleet across different locations. This move came as part of TIER’s ongoing expansion plans in the Middle East, which was achieved through a collaboration with Bahrain’s official authority, the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications (MTT). TIER’s latest market launch marks Bahrain as the third country in the Middle East for the leading tech company to operate in.

TIER is not only the European leader in terms of technology but is also the first company in their sector to reach carbon neutrality in January 2020, setting the industry standards in terms of sustainability. As part of their commitment to support the fight against climate change TIER has adopted the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as its sustainability framework and has set up an ambitious agenda for keeping emissions at a minimum and offsetting the remaining produced CO2.

With the mission to “change mobility for good”, TIER is looking to fully support the MTT in their goal towards developing the micro-mobility sector in Bahrain by providing the country with the latest generation of e-scooters and e-bikes in the market.

TIER’s innovative e-scooters, which will operate on a 24/7 basis, will be located at prime

residential and commercial spots around Manama. The local team of the Berlin-based company has worked in close collaboration with the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications (MTT) to ensure the e-scooters are functioning seamlessly and with the highest levels of safety in place.

Currently TIER operates in 135 cities and 14 countries globally and the numbers are growing rapidly as part of their worldwide expansion project. Since their arrival in the region in 2019, the company has expanded their footprint to three countries; UAE, Qatar and now Bahrain, across four cities, Abu Dhabi & Dubai, Doha and Manama, with plans to serve more cities even further across the Middle East over the coming years.

Commenting on TIER’s launch in Bahrain, Amir Melad, General Manager Middle East for TIER, said: “We are proud to enter Bahrain as our third country in the Middle East and will continue to expand our micro-mobility services to new territories in the MENA region to foster greener cities. With TIER’s cutting-edge e-scooters and e-bikes, residents in Manama can experience an eco-friendly, convenient and refreshing way of moving around the city.”

“The Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications (MTT) has set out extensive master plans to facilitate micro-mobility within the country and TIER aims to support these policies by introducing new modes of transportation such as e-scooters and e-bikes. TIER has been licensed by the MTT to operate in Bahrain and reinforce the ministry’s vision in developing micro-mobility within the Kingdom.”

“We are also very grateful for the immense support we have received from Bahrain’s Economic Development Board (EDB). It is great to see the efforts they are making in helping international companies, such as TIER, establish in Bahrain,” added Amir.

To celebrate its launch in the city of Manama, TIER will offer first-time riders two complementary unlocks and 30 free minutes added to their account when registering with the code “TIERBAH”*. To use a TIER scooter, riders can download the app, select an e-scooter on the virtual map and unlock it by scanning the presented QR code.
