Artificial intelligence (AI) promises to make a dramatic contribution to improving road safety, particularly in the development of self-driving vehicles and autonomous transportation. Powerful new machine learning algorithms are getting better at assessing risks and the intent of human drivers and driving styles, boosting the efficiency and safety of autonomous vehicles on public roads and enabling the seamless integration of autonomous vehicles into transportation systems.
AI expert Professor Daniela Rus will discuss the complex considerations in integrating risk and behavior analysis into autonomous mobility, decision-making, and intelligent situation awareness to improve safety and predictability on the roads in in the upcoming MBZUAI Talks webinar, entitled ‘The Role of AI in Revolutionizing the Autonomous Vehicles.’ The webinar will be held on November 3 at 6pm UAE time.
Professor Rus, a member of the MBZUAI Board of Trusteesand Director of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL), will host the session, which will be moderatedby Dr. Behjat Al Yousuf, Executive Vice President for Outreach and Engagement. Professor Rus will discuss how new machine learning algorithms have enable increased capabilities for autonomous vehicles.
“Deployingautonomous vehicles on public roads promises an increase in efficiency and safety,” said Professor Rus. “However, achieving this requires evaluating risk, understanding the intent of human drivers, and adapting to different driving styles.Autonomous vehicles must have intelligent situation awareness and behave in safe and predictable ways without requiring explicit communication.During this MBZUAITalks session, we will address how to integrate AI into risk and behavior analysis for autonomous cars.”
MBZUAI Talks is an ongoing series of webinars led by some of the world’s foremost experts in the field of AI and hosted by the Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI), the world’s first graduate-level, research-based AI university.
Tuesday’s webinar willexplore the Social Value Orientation (SVO), a concept used to categorize people according to their interactions with others by quantifying the degree of selfishness or altruism.
Registration for the Webinar is free and can be completed at http://www.mbzuai.ac.ae/aitalks.
