Emirates Maritime Arbitration Centre meets with Fujairah Ports and Fujairah Chamber of Commerce and Industry to explore collaboration admin August 27, 2017

Continuing its commitment to work with key industry bodies in the region’s maritime sector, last week the Emirates Maritime Arbitration Centre (EMAC) met with senior executives in two key meetings in Fujairah.

In the first of two meetings, welcomed by Port of Fujairah General Manager, Captain Mousa Murad, and Harbour Master, Captain Tamer Masoud, parties discussed opportunities for collaboration to support further growth of the maritime sector in the Emirate.

Given Fujairah’s position as a world renowned bunkering port and the only mulit-purpose port on the Eastern seaboard of the United Arab Emirates, it is beneficial for both entities to explore partnership opportunities to further spread awareness and knowledge of the value that a locally based maritime arbitration and mediation Centre such as EMAC brings to the industry.

“Fujairah has a long standing maritime history. For decades it has played a pivotal role in not only shaping the UAE economy, but also positioning itself as one of the most important bunkering players in the world,” said Mr. Majid Obaid bin Bashir, Acting Chairman to the Board of Trustees and Chairman to the Executive Committee and Secretary General at EMAC. “We recognise the significance of working together with maritime entities in the region and it is our responsibility to find ways to drive the sector forward now and into the future.”

“These meetings reflect our commitment to working with all entities within the region’s maritime sector to help drive forward the sector in the United Arab Emirates in line with international best practices and the country’,” said Captain Murad. “We look forward to seeing these talks evolve into the future to the benefits of our organisations and maritime companies in Fujairah.”

For the second meeting, the EMAC team visited the Fujairah Chamber of Commerce & Industry which was hosted by the Chairman of Board of Directors, H.E. Khalifa Khamis Mattar Alkaabi, and Director General, Khalid Mohammed Al Jassim.

At the Chamber headquarters, both entities agreed to collaborate by bringing the maritime community in Fujairah together at shared workshops and related events.

“The Chamber is ready to support EMAC to benefit the industry” said H.E. Khalifa Khamis Mattar Alkaabi. “We welcome hosting future EMAC sessions in Fujairah to continue building awareness of EMAC’s arbitration and mediation services, specifically established to support maritime companies.”

These meetings demonstrate EMAC’s commitment to the Fujairah maritime community to deliver excellence in maritime arbitration and mediation. The conversation in Fujairah began earlier this year when EMAC’s Richard Briggs, Member, Board of Trustees, spoke at the International Fujairah Bunker and Fuel Oil Forum to outline the services the Centre is devoted to delivering to the bunkering and wider maritime community.
