The Short-List Of 20 Innovative Apps From The MEA Region Have Been Revealed For The Huawei HMS App Innovation Contest admin December 14, 2020

Huawei has announced its short-list of 20 apps from across the MEA region for the global Huawei HMS App Innovation Contest, AppsUP,with the final winners to be revealedon December 15th.

The Huawei HMS App Innovation Contest, AppsUPis a mobile app development competition organized by Huawei that aims to inspire and challenge globaldevelopers to create innovative apps. To do this they are encouraged to use the full suite of app development tools and resources available through HMS Core. All apps submitted must be integrated with at least one HMS Core development kit to be eligible for the contest.The developers of the winningapps will share in a total of $1 million in competition prizes.

The Huawei HMS App Innovation Contest is a great example of this philosophy and it has already inspired developers to create numerous innovative apps. The short-listed apps from our region are a great showcase of the imagination and hard work developers have to offer and I wish them the best of luck at the finals.”

The Huawei HMS App Innovation Contest is split into five categories: Best App with five winners; Best Game withthree winners; Best Social Impact App also withthree winners; Most Popular App according to the number of downloadsand voting; And the top 12 Honorable Mentions.

The competition attracted interested from across the region and the shortlist is made up of seven entries from Egypt; three from Morocco; one from Tunisia; two from Algeria; three from Pakistan and four from South Africa.

The shortlist apps are:

RafiQ, is a virtual assistant that understands Arabic voice commands in a user’s local dialect. It can organize your life, book an Uber, order food, get product prices and more. From Egyptian company RafiQ.

Colorwheel, is designed to help consumers with everyday outfits and fashion choices using algorithms based on the color wheel to help you piece items that work together. From Egyptian developer Omar Ayman.

Katamars + Orsozoxi, provides orthodox users with many books needed throughout the year coupled with the Katameros daily readings. Search for a verse, receive, copy and share spiritual messages. Developed by Beshoy Adel from Egypt.

A letter of happiness, this app contains 60,000 inspirational messages, articles, images, daily notifications, and more, to keep users uplifted in their lives. Developed by Mohamed Alaa El-Dein Mohamed from Egypt.

Q Dictionary, is an English-Arabic bidirectional dictionary that can translate from other apps and also use the camera offline. From Leapile Mobile Developers of Egypt.

Ordera, is a pickup and drive-thru ordering experience. Pick up your order or have it delivered to your car and win rewards every time. From Egyptian developer Ordera.

Huawei has allocated $1 million from the Shining Star developer program as prize money for the competition, with a total of $200,000 on offer in each region. Awards will be made of $15,000 each for the top five apps; $15,000 each for the top three games; and $15,000 each for the top three apps with the best social impact. The most popular app will win $5,000, while 12 honorable mentions will receive $2,500 each.
