Directed by Greta Gerwig, the film immerses the audience in the memories, moments, accidents of fate and acts of will that form the March sisters – ink-stained, defiantly independent writer Jo; nurturing, principled, would-be actor Meg; fragile, open-hearted musician Beth; clever, aspirational painter Amy – into their full, complicated adult selves, each so different but united in an unswerving sisterhood.

Writer-director Greta Gerwig (Lady Bird) has crafted a Little Women that draws on both the classic novel and the writings of Louisa May Alcott, and unfolds as the author’s alter ego, Jo March, reflects back and forth on her fictional life. In Gerwig’s take, the beloved story of the March sisters – four young women each determined to live life on her own terms – is both timeless and timely. Portraying Jo, Meg, Amy, and Beth March, the film stars Saoirse Ronan, Emma Watson, Florence Pugh, Eliza Scanlen, with Timothée Chalamet as their neighbor Laurie, Laura Dern as Marmee, and Meryl Streep as Aunt March.

Empire Entertainment hosted a very special screening of Little Women at Cinema Akil, Alserkal Avenue, Dubai, followed by an insightful panel discussion, on Sunday, January 26th. The panel discussion, entitled ‘Not So Little Women’, featured some of Dubai’s most inspirational and successful women – women who have broken free of stereotypes and defied the odds to become hugely successful in their respective industries.

Special guests included Ahlam Al Bolooki (Director, Emirates Airline International Festival of Literature), Ghita Mejdi (Group Communications Director, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles Middle East) and Roudha Al Marri (Author & Storyteller) who shared their own fascinating stories of empowerment, while reflecting on the characterisations of female achievement in the Middle East and around the world. Just as the Little Women film dares women to “Own your story”, all four panel guests are linked by their determination to take control of their unqiue stories and achieve their own definitions of success.

Eager fans, excited about the January 30th release, can get a sneak peak of Little Women HERE.
