The vast majority (83%) of surveyed organizations expect that such attacks are \u201csomewhat\u201d to \u201cvery\u201d likely to be successful in the coming 12 months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The insights are published in the latest version of Trend Micro\u2019s\u00a0<em>Cyber Risk Index<\/em>\u00a0(CRI)\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/tracking.epressrelease.me\/tracking\/click?d=E7PpxOq8BIAn1QFK0uWvkBLynODPqqkYydg_N0qGEOoKjNGh7b_9NDv-78dlNO7TfnOk6YPFW0CrlgFu_F-iJ5HpH5yWwOJapbgTW3zseMtVx_kYUUiJdj2WHay1irWPlEQFMvlmF_X6clSIggx_GuI1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">www.trendmicro.com\/cyberrisk<\/a>) calculated by the Ponemon Institute by measuring the gap between organizations\u2019 current security posture and their likelihood of being attacked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe CRI is fast becoming an indispensable resource for CISOs looking to assess their readiness to respond to cyber attacks,\u201d said Jon Clay, director of global threat communications for Trend Micro. \u201cThis year we\u2019ve added data from Europe and APAC to provide truly global insight. It will help organizations across the world find better ways to cut through complexity, mitigate insider threats and skills shortages, and enhance cloud security to minimize cyber risk and drive post-pandemic success.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The CRI is based on a numerical scale of -10 to 10, with -10 representing the highest level of risk. The current global index stands at -0.41, representing \u201celevated\u201d risk, although risk is highest in the US (-1.07) due to a perceived lack of cyber preparedness versus other regions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Responding organizations claimed their\u00a0<strong>top cyber-threat risks<\/strong>\u00a0globally are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Phishing and social engineering<\/li><li>Clickjacking<\/li><li>Ransomware<\/li><li>Fileless attacks<\/li><li>Botnets<\/li><li>Man-in-the-middle attacks<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Across the globe, organizations\u2019\u00a0<strong>key concerns<\/strong>\u00a0are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The loss of customer data<\/li><li>Access to IP and financial information<\/li><li>Customer churn<\/li><li>Stolen or damaged equipment<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cTrend Micro\u2019s CRI is a useful tool for companies to better understand their cyber risk,\u201d said Dr. Larry Ponemon, CEO for Ponemon Institute. \u201cExpanding this to be a global resource in 2020 opens the door for more organizations to leverage this useful information. Businesses of all sizes and industries across the globe can use the CRI to improve their protection strategy and better prepare their cybersecurity posture in the year to come.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There were differences between certain countries as well. In the US respondents were unique in listing the cost of outside consultants as a top negative consequence of attack, while in APAC damage to critical infrastructure concerned organizations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\u00a0<strong>top global security risks<\/strong>\u00a0within IT infrastructure were highlighted as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Organizational misalignment and complexity<\/li><li>Negligent insiders<\/li><li>Cloud computing infrastructure and providers<\/li><li>Shortage of qualified personnel<\/li><li>Malicious insiders<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This is the third CRI study in the US and shows a significant increase in cyber risk in 2020.
